Investigating The Role of Citizen Participation in Sustainable Neighborhood Planning and Development in Sanandaj City

Abstract

In recent years, public participation has become one of the most effective tools and key elements in the decision-making process in areas of activity aimed at improving the quality of life of citizens, especially in developing countries. In this regard, the present study was conducted to investigate the role of citizen participation in planning and sustainable development of Sanandaj, in four neighborhoods of the four tissues of Sanandaj. In this regard, the present study was conducted to investigate the role of citizen participation in sustainable planning and development of the neighborhood of Sanandaj. This research, while emphasizing its practicality, is based on the paradigm of pragmatism and is carried out with a descriptive-analytical method. The data collection method was based on a researcher-made questionnaire. The statistical population is the neighborhoods of Sanandaj city, in which four neighborhoods (Chaharbagh, Safari, Taqtaqan and Zibashahr) were purposefully selected from different areas and textures of Sanandaj city. Single-sample t-test, Friedman, Tuckey tracking, multivariate regression coefficient, and structural equation modeling were used in the form of SPSS, AMOS, and ARC GIS software to perform data analysis. The results of t-test showed that the level of participation of Sanandaj residents in sustainable planning and development of the neighborhood with an average of 2.39 was low and low. Accordingly, the highest type of participation of residents in the field of financial participation with an average of 2.61 and the lowest level of participation of residents was related to political participation with an average of 1.63. Findings from multivariate regression showed that the independent variables were able to explain about 45% of the changes in the dependent variable (neighborhood participation). On the other hand, the structural equation technique showed that the awareness factor with a factor of 0.86 had the greatest effect and the self-efficacy factor with a factor of 0.40 had the least effect on the participation of residents.
