Abstract

Today, the absence of legitimate comprehension of the peculiarity of climate change and its ramifications on different areas in Iran, has caused different difficulties for residents, administrators and organizers; These challenges include agricultural decline, drought and floods, poverty, and increasing migration. Along these lines, this study means to explore the impacts of climate change on spatial-locational population changes in Iran, and furthermore, for the subsequent advance, a more itemized investigation of the examination region, i.e., climate migrants living in the city of Karaj. The method of this research is descriptive-analytical and its nature is causal (post-event). This research is cross-sectional in terms of time and covers the period of 1996-2016. The findings of the study, which is the product of data analysis and mapping, as well as 400 questionnaires filled out in 8 districts of Karaj, show that the cause of more than 10% of migration to Karaj is due to the climate change. The city of Karaj had climatic migrants from 9 territories of the country, a large portion of which were from Khuzestan territory. Additionally, the biggest number of climatic migrants live in two zones: Zone 2 and zone 5 of Karaj city. The greater part of the climate migrants has chosen Karaj as their home city because of open positions, the vicinity of Karaj to Tehran city and the low residing costs in this city contrasted with Tehran.
