Evaluation and Analysis of the Factors Affecting the Competitive Advantages of Tourism (Case Study: Gilan Province)

Abstract

In recent years, competition has been discussed as an economic concept that affects the sustainable development of the tourism industry. Although there have been studies about competitive advantage in the world's tourism destinations, not many comprehensive and applied studies have been done in our country, and the necessity of conducting such studies is evident in advance. The current research has a developmental-applicative nature and a descriptive-analytical method and it was conducted with the aim of evaluating the factors affecting the competitive advantages of tourism in Gilan province. The required data were collected using library studies and field surveys at the household level. The sample size was estimated using Cochran's formula equal to 379 households. By using quantitative and statistical methods including multiple regression in SPSS software environment, structural equations in Smart Pls software environment and fuzzy multivariate analysis in GIS environment, to investigate the level of competitive advantages of tourism and prioritization. The effective components in the considered area have been discussed. The findings show that Gilan province has the indicators of competitive advantages of tourism in the order of priority in Gilan province, destination management indicators, key resources and attractions, strengthening factors and supporting factors and resources and Destination development planning and policy with 0.511, 0.456, 0.287, 0.276 and 0.266 percent have the biggest role in the competitive advantages of tourism in Gilan province, which shows the importance of destination management. to other dimensions. Gilan province has medium-high competitive advantages of tourism, so that the largest area is related to the high level with a value of 3900 square kilometers.
